This is my final blog post or as it is called in the unit outline, my reflective "meta" post. I would like to start by explaining I did not really understand what networked media was at the beginning of this course. I now know that it is how the internet works, allows us to interact with others and communicate. This made it hard at the start when we began blogging because I was unsure of what to say and what networked media I should present. After beginning classes and more lectures I had a better understanding.
I chose to write about lectures and information that they taught me. I viewed websites that interested me as they are certain film makers and photographer that I idolize and believe others may also, or now have the opportunity after learning about them. I also continued to update on the progress I was making with the assignments over the course that included Project A, where I built a website and Project B, where I constructed a photographic tour and geotagged each on Flickr. Each of these assignments allowed me to use a variety of media and understand the positives and negatives of certain types such as video uploaders, webpage makers and so on.
The audience I tried to write for where people like me doing the same course who had the same sort of interests. This is why I chose to write what I was using in Projects, interesting sites and positive and negative aspects I have found within networked media.
It is a basic and up to date blog with webpages that I would insist on viewing and information about this course. I have also added some gadgets on the side bar to make it a bit more interesting. One gadget I chose to add was the youtube video bar. In this bar you will find a video called, Strings Day Out, which is an amazing film made by a friend of mine. She made it entirely of photographs that she took and compiled them into a movie. I also added a slideshow of pictures from Flickr with the keyword sunset. This allows a slideshow to continue playing a variety of sunsets taken by all different members of Flickr. These are good examples of networked media on my blog because they are different people and sites that are connected and viewed through my blog.

It is also required to nominate three of my past posts to be assessed. I have chosen Tuesday, September 23's post because it has a clear engagement with, and reflection on, the content of the unit. It also shows an ability to create, customise and integrate networked media forms as it explains that we learnt how to use Text Wrangler in our tutorial. This allows us to customize and create our own webpage.
The second post I am going to nominate is Sunday, August 17. This is a small summary of what I have learnt so far in the first 2/3 weeks of the course, reflecting and engaging on the content of the unit.
The third post I nominate is Friday, September 5. I chose this post because it explains how I created Project A, which was creating a website and publishing my work on it. This showed an ability to position my own practice appropriately within the context of networked media and connecting with an audience.

I have just completed Production Project B. I chose, as said in my last post, part 2. I chose to combine geotagged photographs on Flickr using Maps. The photos were taken by my friend Bijou Busse, and edited by me, Casie Louttit. I chose to do a tour on this as Bijou is an amazing surfer and travels around the world for competitions. These photos portray a story from her surfboards point of view, as she takes it everywhere with her. It was also interesting as the photos are placed all over the world making the map/geotagging a little more interesting.

It is also better to view them in slideshow with the info on, which allows you to read and view the photos full screen. It is now week 14 and nearing the end of university. I have not et finished the assignment but I plan to sit in the computer room all day tomorrow and get as much done as possible. As I explained in my last blog post, I am doing the second option of photography.
I am using Flickr and putting up photos that my mate Bijou Busse has taken and some I have also taken. She is a professional surfer and I will be telling a story from her surfboards point of view. It will mainly be based on the photos but it will have a narrative to connect and explain them. She is currently in Hawaii so hopefully I will also get some beautiful photos from there!
I chose this because the geo-tagging will be more interesting than all based in Australia and the story has a basic structure to it.

I have decided to do the second option for our semester 2, term 2 assignment. I am aiming to take a variety of photographs, from which I can produce a story. I will then add all of these photos into flickr and geotag them. Geotagging is where you attatch the photo to the place it was taken on a map of the world.
I would have liked to do the third option where you make a video about youtube. However, I have a large amount of assignments and preparation for exams needs to start sometime soon so filming and editing a short film is too time consuming for my current work state.
I am buying a new camera this week because my last one broke, so I will begin late this week and update my blog on how it is going.

This is a small summary of the sites we checked out in our tutorial today.

Wolfenfickr is a strange site where you can post your photos in what looks like a video game. It has low resolution, which does not make your photos appear as clear as you would like when posting them on the internet for others to view.

Retrivr is a way of finding photos in flickr with certain colours that you are looking for. You draw in a small box which colours you are after and a variety of photos that are similar will appear from all different flickr members.

Notifyr is like an rss feed with updates of flickr.

Twitter has friends

Strawpolls has different polls each day for people to vote on.

Commuter feed has updates people can sms to such as road blocks.

Twistori is similar to wefeelfine.org/ but is related to twitter instead of everyones blogs. It is also more up to date as it is live.

Twittervision is a live version of people comments and photos uploaded to twitter. It shows a large map and the location of where the photo/comments are made. They pop up on the map when they are uploaded. It is a live, up to date map. Check it out its really interesting to watch!!

Unfortunately I ran out of internet credit last week so I could not put up a post so this will be meant for my week 11 post. Last week we looked at an interesting site wefeelfine.org/. This is a very interesting site someone has conjured. which has everyones posts that involve feelings. For example if you have written about yourself being sad and someone looks for someone who is sad your blog will come up.
It is about five hours up to date, making it a very modern up to date site.
Clearly I couldn't do much because I had no credit and had to look on with someone else but it is interesting to check out.

This week we were introduced to text wrangler in our tutorials. Text Wrangler is a strange but interesting form of producing webpages. It is complex without having a tutor telling you everything to do and what it all means. All the signs, letters, symbols and numbers that I don't usually pay attention to on things like updating my myspace or skipping over on the keyboard. I noticed a few little things like:
-what stands for unordered list that are arranged on the webpage in dot points.
-Adding / to the end closes the element.
-what makes a link when typing the link where the dots are.
-what stands for the main heading.
-fff is white and 000 is black, whilst all other colours vary between these.
Although, I can not type them in because it will arrange this blog post awkwardly due to the codes being used to format webpages.

This is great to learn because when I make a webpage I can do what I want. I don't have to choose a pre-made layout from a free website maker. It will allow me to be more creative and visually represent my works without being restricted.

For production project A I chose the second option, which was to curate an online exhibition in any medium. So I chose to collect some of my works including photography and film. I added these to a website I chose to name 'Life through Casie's lens'. I did this as it is what i see through the lens and others can view both my life and my love for film and photography. I also chose to add some others websites I enjoy, find interesting or just like to visit. These included www.poorspecimen.com, Taylor Steele's webpage where you can show him footage or music for him to add in one one his surfing films; www.jackmccoy.com, a famous movie maker and photographer for over 30 years; www.flickr.com, a website that you can upload and share photo's with members; www.youtube.com, where you can upload, share and view films; and www.digitalsnowboard.com, a published magazine and DVD of amazing snowboarding footage.

I finished my assignment after realising that I couldn't use iWeb which I had made my entire webpage on because you have to pay to publish it.
I decided to use freewebs.com, which is a really easy and free site for making webpages. It took me afew hours all up to redo it with uploading films, recreating the layout and so on. It is an exhibition of my work, films/photography, plus afew teasers of films that I like. I think it turned out pretty sweet so check it out at www.freewebs.com/louttit and see for yourself.

My assessment is an exhibition on photography and films I have made over the past few years. It is a small exhibition of some of my better works. I chosen to produce this exhibition using iWeb. Although, I have just been told I may not be able to upload it to the internet without paying which is shit because I've been working on it for a while. So I'm goin to go try figure it out.

It is the second last week of the first half of the second semester woohoooo. I have been away so have not been able to do alot of the assessment. But i have been checking out copyright, who's photography or trailers i could add to my webpage and other favourite links aswell...so its getting there...
I have also been working on a print advertisement assignment for Media Representation and thought I might share some of the funny print advertisements I came across.

So I got my wisdom teeth out yesterday, which means I have icepacks tied to my face, consume everything through a straw and spitting blood into a poor defenseless blue bucket. So ofcoarse I could not make it to class this week and doing very little work.
So I'll see you when I'm not high as a kite and seeing further than the back of my eyelids...
Oh but since I will be watching various movies in this time, heres a snipet of Taylor Steele's brilliant new surfing movie called Trilogy.

I have decided to contribute this blog to what I have learnt from the past four weeks in Networked Media Study. Although I didn’t make it to week 3’s lecture so I did not have notes to share.

The first lecture introduced us to Networked Media and what the course will involve. I learnt the course was about types of mediums that are networked on the internet and what they are used for. A medium is as explained in the lecture ‘something intermediate, something between one person and another, and that medium allows us to communicate or express ideas. For example blogging allows us to express our thoughts, whereabouts, knowledge and experience for other people to read and comment upon. The US Advanced Research Projects Agency, ARPANET , started connecting computer networks in the sixties. It began by sending data through packet switching, where small parts where sent at a time called metadata. It is machine readable and encoded so it is sent to the right place and in the right order. It began with email, terminal operation and newsgroups. A bandwidth is the data throughput, Mbits/sec. It gives an understanding of HTML’s and how they link to networks.

The second lecture as an introduction to blogs before we started them in that weeks tutorials. Blogs are mainly used for daily comments, boingboing (gadgets), live journal, reciprocal links (back and forth), porn and sport. An RSS, Really Simple Sindication, alows you to easily access and be updated on sites you are RSS feeded to. Technorati.com tracks millions of blogs. Widget allows yo to put music, timers and so on onto your blog. Tumblr is a simplified blogging format making it easy to produce blogs. Twitter is a blog that you can update through SMS, therefore you don’t need a computer connection (micro blogging). Facebook and Myspace have built in blogging features. Del.icio.us allows for bookmarking of sites and people with similar interests to view and link to. Blogs an also be made for particular interests such as motiongrapher.com is for people interested in motion graphics and animation.

Web 2.0 refers to the modernised Web 1.0, from 45 million global users and 250,000 sites to over 1 billion global users and 80,000,000 sites. After 2001 dot com companies had record setting rises in stock and these companies buy more shares until the share prices fall. XML, xHTML and RSS feeds are vital to Web 2.0. Cascading Style Sheets (CSS) applies rues to your content such as the making of webpages that will be completed in further tutorials. Web 2.0 is such a big, exciting concept because it is easier to use, faster, pleasurable, forms social networks, up to date, accessible and informative.

Second post up woooo.
Not much to say...went to the snow for a day trip last friday snowed all day long. Im going again on sunday, got a few pics from friday so i might put some up after this wkd. I havent really had a chance to check out many more blogs so havent got much to add on that subject.
I started to make a webpage today for Project A using iWeb on my mac. It's a pretty good format to use so far if anyone has a mac and chose the second option for the assessment.

Alrighty. This is my first blog so I'll try make it short and sweet. I haven't really visited blogs before so I'm not to sure what to write. I mainly use the internet for simple stuff like facebook, hotmail, youtube and snow/surf weather, so this is all new for me.

Hmm, so this is my second semester at University of Canberra doing Bachelor of Communication in Media and Multimedia production. I am from the coast but also love the snow. Heading there this weekend whoop!! I have made a few films, hence studying media and multimedia production.

I have been sussing some blogs to add to this and came across a site, www.poorspecimen.com this is interesting for those like me who like to film surf. It allows you to send film, editing or music in for professional film makers to look at and consider in their films.
